ASTM A335 P11 is a specification for seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes designed specifically for use in high-temperature applications. The “P11” grade refers to an alloy steel containing chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo), and it is widely used in heat exchangers, boilers, and superheaters. These tubes are known for their strength and resistance to oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperatures.

The presence of molybdenum makes P11 an excellent material for applications where creep resistance is crucial, such as in superheaters and steam boilers.

Material Composition:

  • Chromium (Cr): 0.5 - 1.00%
  • Molybdenum (Mo): 0.44 - 0.65%
  • Carbon (C): 0.05 - 0.15%
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.30 - 0.60%
  • Silicon (Si): 0.50 - 0.80%
  • Phosphorus (P) & Sulfur (S): The content of P and S is tightly controlled to ensure quality and prevent brittleness.

Mechanical Properties:

  • Tensile Strength: Typically 415 MPa (60 ksi) or higher
  • Yield Strength: Minimum of 205 MPa (30 ksi)
  • Elongation: Minimum of 30% (in 8 inches) or 35% (in 2 inches)
  • Hardness: A typical hardness value is around HB 185-250.
